Non-oxidative coupling of methane (NOCM) is a sought-after reaction that has been studied for decades. Harsh conditions (T >800°C) in the face limited catalyst stability lead to rapid deactivation and strong coking, preventing application thus far. Recent reports have shown significance an interplay nature conditions, whereas metal carbides prevailed play crucial role which involves incorporation carbidic carbon C2Hx aromatic products. This perspective gives overview proposed mechanistic pathways considerations about experiment order foster rational design platform NOCM.
